What Refrigerant Circuit Noises Means

Liebherr names each of these sounds in the Malfunction chapter and then explains why each is expected. Bubbling and gurgling is refrigerant moving through the circuit. A quiet click is the refrigeration unit switching on or off. A hum that briefly rises is the cooling stepping up. A low hum is the fan. Vibration is the appliance not standing firm.

Common Causes of Refrigerant Circuit Noises

  • Refrigerant flowing through the sealed circuit, heard as bubbling or gurgling
  • The compressor switching on or off, heard as a quiet click
  • Fan airflow, heard as a low continuous hum
  • An unlevelled cabinet transmitting vibration into the floor or neighbouring furniture

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Vibration is the one you can genuinely fix: level the appliance on its adjustable feet and move bottles and containers apart so they stop rattling against one another. Liebherr's own FAQ adds that these noises cannot be avoided entirely and are nothing to be concerned about.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • There is no repair for most of these because nothing is wrong, and chasing them leads people to pull appliances about and unlevel the one thing they could have fixed.
  • A noise that is genuinely new, loud and unlike anything on Liebherr's list is a different matter, and worth describing accurately rather than reproducing over the phone.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Refrigerant Circuit Noises FAQ

Gurgling is refrigerant flowing, not refrigerant escaping — Liebherr lists it as a normal sound. A leak shows up as a loss of cooling, not as a noise.

Yes, and this one is on Liebherr's own list: level it on the adjustable feet and give it a little clearance from the neighbouring furniture. Most cabinet buzz is transmitted vibration rather than the appliance itself.
