What Soft-Stop Mechanism Noise Means
The flow sound or click some Liebherr wine cabinets make as the door opens and closes comes from the soft-stop mechanism, which exists because a double-glazed wine-cabinet door is heavy enough to need damping. Liebherr lists the noise in the Malfunction chapter only to confirm that it is normal.
Common Causes of Soft-Stop Mechanism Noise
- The damper controlling the weight of the glass door as it closes
- Air moving through the mechanism as it compresses and releases
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Nothing, and Liebherr adds a specific warning worth repeating: do not reach into the soft-stop mechanism, because fingers can be caught in it. Cleaning around the door is fine; probing the damper is not.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- There is no repair for a sound the manufacturer documents as normal, and the only real hazard here is an owner investigating a mechanism Liebherr explicitly warns against reaching into.
- A door that has started to slam, or to hang open where it used to close itself, is a different report — that one is about the mechanism failing rather than about the noise it makes working.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
