What MECHANICAL FAULT Means
The fourth of Liebherr's named IceMaker messages on the PremiumPlus display. MECHANICAL FAULT with the audible alarm means the moving part of the ice maker did not complete what the control asked of it — distinct from the water-supply and sensing messages, which describe what feeds the mechanism rather than the mechanism itself.
Common Causes of MECHANICAL FAULT
- The ejection or fill mechanism stalled part-way through its cycle
- A drive part or linkage inside the IceMaker has failed
- An obstruction held the mechanism until the control gave up on the movement
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Acknowledge with OK and check the one thing Liebherr treats as a handling error: whether something has been packed against the mechanism or the drawer left short of closed. Everything past that is drive and linkage work.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A stalled drive that keeps being asked to move is a drive being worn down, so repeated acknowledgement without a repair tends to convert a linkage job into a module job.
- IceMaker assemblies on these cabinets come out as a unit and reconnect to both a loom and a water path, which is a combination worth getting right first time rather than learning on.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
