A compressor or cooling-system problem (F8) that traces back to a refrigerant leak is not a DIY repair, regardless of how mechanically confident you are. Refrigerant handling requires EPA certification, specialized leak-detection equipment to actually find the leak rather than guess at it, and the right tools to safely recover, evacuate, and recharge a sealed system — attempting this without that training risks both an ineffective fix and a genuine safety and environmental hazard.
If your unit’s compressor is running continuously without cycling off, or has gone completely silent, that pattern is consistent with an F8 error, and it’s worth a technician visit rather than any DIY refrigerant top-off attempt.
