A wine cabinet holding the wrong humidity is a quieter problem than a warm fridge, but it’s no less damaging to what’s inside — corks can dry out and let in oxygen if humidity runs too low, while labels and corks can mold if it runs too high for too long.
Start With the Door Seal
Wine cabinet gaskets are held to a tighter tolerance than a standard refrigerator door, since the whole humidity system depends on the cabinet staying essentially sealed. A gasket that’s lost its flexibility — common after several years — lets ambient room humidity leak in and overrides the unit’s own regulation.
Check the Water Reservoir, If Your Model Has One
Some Liebherr wine cabinets use an active humidification system with a small internal water reservoir. If yours has one and it’s run dry, the cabinet has no way to add moisture back in even if the sensor is reading correctly.
Sensor Drift Over Time
If the seal is intact and any reservoir is filled, a humidity sensor that’s drifted out of calibration is the next most likely cause — this is a routine service item, not a sign the whole unit is failing.
