What Frost in the Display Chest Means

Liebherr's impulse-sales chest cabinets use a system it calls StopFrost, which it describes as vastly reducing frosting of the compartment and its contents so that defrosting is needed far less often. Far less often is not never, and a chest that has frosted over is usually overdue rather than failing.

Common Causes of Frost in the Display Chest

  • Ordinary accumulation over a long trading period between defrosts
  • A lid left open or propped during restocking in a humid room
  • A lid seal no longer closing, which turns slow accumulation into fast accumulation
  • A defrost or frost-control problem where ice returns within days of a clear-out

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try

Because hot steam and sharp implements both cause injuries, Liebherr rules them out first: no steam cleaners, no electric heaters, no naked flames or defrosting sprays, and no chipping at ice with anything sharp. Then switch off, isolate, move the stock somewhere cold, leave the lid open and mop as it goes.

⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That

  • Ice that comes back within days of a proper defrost is no longer housekeeping, and continuing to clear it by hand each week hides the actual problem.
  • Chipping at ice around an evaporator is how refrigerant circuits get punctured, and that converts a scheduled job into sealed-system work no operator can carry out.

Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FAQ

Frost in the Display Chest FAQ

Liebherr does not publish an interval, because it depends on the room and the trade. The practical trigger is ice starting to take space, hold the lid open or bury the stacking mark.

That is fast enough to be worth investigating. Check the lid seal and how long the lid stands open during restocking before assuming the refrigeration is to blame.
