Common Problems

Why Does My Liebherr Freezer Have Frost Buildup Even With NoFrost?

NoFrost technology is supposed to eliminate manual defrosting entirely — so a frosted-over freezer usually points to one specific failure, not normal wear.

Liebherr’s NoFrost system circulates cold air to prevent ice crystals from ever forming inside the freezer compartment, so visible frost — especially a thick layer on the back wall or around the door frame — is a sign something in that system has stopped working correctly, not something to just chip off and ignore.

The Usual Suspect: The Door Seal

A worn or misaligned door gasket lets warm, humid room air into the freezer every time it’s opened, and that moisture is exactly what NoFrost is designed to manage. When the seal is compromised, the system can be overwhelmed faster than it can clear the moisture, and frost starts collecting at the door edges first.

Evaporator Fan or Defrost Heater Faults

If the seal checks out and frost is spreading across the interior more broadly, the evaporator fan or the automatic defrost heater cycle itself may be the actual fault — both require opening the unit’s rear panel to diagnose properly.

Don’t Chip at the Ice

Never use a knife or sharp tool to remove built-up frost — it’s a common cause of punctured evaporator coils, which turns a fixable fault into a much larger repair. Book a freezer repair visit instead.
